Our beams are handcrafted by our team on-site in order to make the perfect oak fireplace or oak mantelpiece for your home. Ideal for oak beam kitchen lintels as well as fireplace beams. Our solid oak beam range of fireplaces and mantelpieces have each been handworked and are available air dried in a variety of sizes and finishes. Important: Please note the following before purchasing: If you have chosen a 'Lightly Worked' or a 'Heavily Worked' beam from the above choices, unless specified in the 'Order Notes' upon checking out, we will work the largest beam face. Oak is a natural product and therefore each individual piece will be different in appearance and will vary slightly in colour and grain. Our character grade beams may well already contain knots, surface cracks, pinholes and waney edges and cracks would be expected to develop further once they acclimatise to a new environment after purchase. Although our beams are air-dried, it also is not unusual for the oak to develop further shrinkage and movement as it continues to dry and adjust to your property's temperature. If your beam is going to go above a fire, log burner, fire or intense heat, we recommend that the heat should be gradually increased over a period of a week or more if possible. All of our oak is PEFC certified, meaning that it is sustainably sourced, and the forest management is environmentally appropriate, economically viable and socially beneficial management for present and future generations. Depending on your choice of beam size, we can supply you with a choice of straight brackets, T-Shape Brackets or keyhole brackets; should you have a preference, please leave a note in the 'Order Notes' section of the checkout when purchasing your oak beam. If no notes have have been added we will send out straight brackets with all beam sizes apart from ones with a 2" projection out from the wall, where we will send out keyhole brackets. Kiln Dried to reduce moisture. Our logs are smaller so they are a suitable size for all log burners. All of our firewood is guaranteed to be sustainably sourced and produced on-site. Once the firewood has been cut and split it goes into one of our Drying Kilns which are powered by our eco-friendly Biomass boilers burning our waste wood from the production process of the sawmill and machine shop. The firewood is left in the Kiln and regularly moisture checked until the moisture content is between 10%-20%. Why Burn Kiln Dried Firewood? You will notice that when you burn Kiln Dried Firewood you will get a much hotter cleaner burn and will also burn much less firewood compared to when you burn seasoned or fresh-cut firewood. This is because most seasoned or fresh-cut firewood contains a much higher moisture content, normally around 45%+ and the efficiency of your fire is partly taken up by removing this moisture from the wood as it burns. We guarantee that our firewood is between 10%-20% moisture content, can your current supplier guarantee this? We are currently the only firewood supplier in Pembrokeshire that sells Woodsure "Ready to Burn" firewood - meaning nobody else can guarantee a hotter, cleaner burn from their firewood. Is Kiln Dried Firewood more expensive? Kiln Dried Firewood may seem more expensive by a few pounds per bag compared to normally seasoned (not Kiln-Dried) firewood but it actually works out cheaper. This is because you will find you burn much less Kiln Dried firewood compared to seasoned firewood and it will also help keep your stove & stove glass much cleaner and healthier. What application is Kiln Dried Firewood suitable for? Kiln Dried Firewood is suitable for all log burners, multi-fuel burners, open fires, pizza ovens, chimneys, braziers, and all solid fuel biomass boilers. This means that the timber will have fewer knots, cracks and blemishes than character oak shelves. Our oak is kiln-dried to remove moisture and lessen movement after installation. Then sanded to remove sharp edges and soften the timber to a greater aesthetic finish. The shelves are not oiled prior to despatch but sent with a small bottle of the colour of choice. Oak Shelves FAQ's Are your oak shelves joined or one piece? It depends on the width or the shelves that you have ordered and our stock levels. Generally, we do not stock boards wider than 200mm / 8". For boards wider than this, we advise that they will be made up of multiple smaller boards that have been joined anyway as this will prevent the boards from moving and twisting, which wide boards are likely to do. We use biscuit joins to create a seamless, wide shelf. Will my oak shelf have knots in it? Yes. However, our kiln dried oak boards, which we use for oak shelves, are supplied from joinery grade oak. They are cut from closer to the base of the tree than character grade oak, and therefore where there are fewer branches. This ensures that there are also fewer knots in the wood than other oak grades.

The kiln-dried process that our chopping boards go through ensures that they are ideal for interior use and will have minimal further movement in the future. Your chopping board will come hand sanded to a smooth finish and will be sent with a food-safe protective Board Butter (a blend of natural beeswax and food-grade oils, all produced and sourced in Wales) To minimise board cupping/bending/splitting, keep the board as dry as possible.
