Gisou's Biggest Meta Month Sent Shoppers to Sephora
Gisou's largest Meta push of the year wasn't Black Friday: it sent French shoppers to Sephora. 1,588 ads traced by month, landing page and estimated spend.
On 12 January 2026, Gisou launched its most-reached Meta ad in the Brandsearch index: 2.81 million people in the EU, about €22,600 of estimated spend, three weeks of delivery. The ad did not link to gisou.com. Its button said "Order Now" and sent people to a product page on sephora.fr.
That one ad captures how Gisou, the honey-based haircare brand Negin Mirsalehi built on her family's beekeeping, has used Meta over the past year. The brand's biggest month was not Black Friday. Its biggest product launch happened twice: a quiet one on its own store, then a loud one that sent traffic to a retailer. If you follow Gisou, or any brand like it, by counting its new ads or by checking its Shopify revenue, you would have missed the move that mattered most.
What follows uses Brandsearch's index of Gisou's Meta ads: 1,588 ads started between January 2025 and 23 October 2026. Spend figures are Brandsearch estimates (the EU reach Meta publishes, multiplied by a fixed rate per country), counted against the month each ad started. They show where Gisou put its weight, not its invoices.
The lip mask launched twice
The product at the centre of it is the Honey Glaze Collagen Therapy Lip Mask.
First launch, on gisou.com. On 12 November 2025 a founder-voiced video ("I've been keeping this buttery secret to myself for so long") pointed to a waitlist page on gisou.com. On 17 November an "OUT NOW!" ad linked to the product page. December added the Honey Pups, small plush cases for the lip mask, pushed in an ad that reached 886,828 people. From mid-November to the end of December, ads about the lip mask carried about €21,700 of estimated spend, all of it pointing at Gisou's own site or at no link at all.
Second launch, at Sephora. On 2 January a linkless teaser ("Glazing our way into 2026") reached 954,583 people. On 5 January another said the mask was "coming to Sephora 1/5". The same day, Gisou ran one modest ad on its own store: "Our sold-out Honey Glaze lip mask is back!", about €930 of estimated spend. Then, from 12 January, sixteen French-language ads ran with the headline "Nouveau! Gisou Masque Lèvres Honey Glaze" and the line "Achetez Gisou chez Sephora", every one linking to sephora.fr.
Those sixteen ads carried €65,400 of estimated spend. With the teasers and a Dubai pop-up recap, lip mask ads started in January add up to about €87,700, roughly four times what the product got during its own-store launch.
The sequence reads like a plan. Gisou sold the mask to its own audience first, while demand was building and stock ran short (its own January ad calls the mask "sold-out"). It then spent its largest single-month budget sending new customers to a retailer that already carried the brand (Gisou has been at Sephora since 2020) and could put the mask in front of people who would never type gisou.com.
Black Friday was an ordinary month
Gisou did run Black Friday properly. From 17 November its ads offered 25% off sitewide, then "30% off bundles & 25% off sitewide", with the line "It's our biggest sale of the year." In December came "12 Days of Gisou" and a 20% code on gift sets for last-minute buyers.
But measured by estimated spend on ads started each month, November 2025 (€34,100 across 97 ads) sat below the average month, and December (€45,100) only a little above it. January 2026 reached €96,800: 2.8 times November and 2.5 times the average month from January 2025 to August 2026.

In 2025, 83% of Gisou's estimated spend pointed at gisou.com. Sephora links appeared, but small: about €26,000 over the year, mostly for new US-site product pages (lip oils, the Honey Milk styling cream). January 2026 is the only month where the retailer took most of the money.
For a merchant planning Q4, that is the point worth keeping. A brand with Gisou's reach did not treat Black Friday as the month to spend hardest. It ran a standard sitewide discount on its own store, kept the budget in line with any other month, and saved the money for a launch in a quiet media month, when its ads were not competing with every other brand's discount.
Its strongest Black Friday ad reached 530,350 people. The Sephora video reached more than five times that.

Try Brandsearch freeThe revenue estimate cannot see the push
Brandsearch estimates gisou.com at $0.90M to $1.64M a month in revenue, from about 338,000 monthly visits. That figure is the own store only. Every lip mask sold at Sephora in January is invisible to it.
The store's own bestseller sort tells the same story from the other side. The top ten on gisou.com are led by the €40 Honey Infused Hair Oil, the €28 lip oil and the hair mask. The lip mask, the product behind the biggest ad of the period, is not among them.
So the two numbers people check first about a competitor, its Shopify revenue and how many ads it launches, both point the wrong way here. Revenue misses the channel Gisou paid to grow. Ad count, as the next section shows, misses where the money went.
After January, most ads carried no link
From February to May 2026, two thirds (67%) of Gisou's estimated spend went to ads with no landing page at all. They were creator videos: a shampoo routine, a "post-beach hair routine", a reviewer trying the new Honey Gloss Collagen Drops. The largest of them, a "Bee Season" video announcing 25% off sitewide on 18 May, reached 1.73 million people with no landing page recorded.
A no-link ad cannot be judged on clicks to the store. Gisou announced a sitewide sale in a video with no recorded link to the sale, which only makes sense if the job of that ad is reach and recall, with the purchase expected later, at gisou.com or at a shelf. From June the mix moved back towards the store (58% of spend from June to September pointed at gisou.com), with a new line of ads sending people to Gisou's Instagram profile.
More ads, less money
If you only counted Gisou's new ads, June 2026 would look like the big month: 158 ads started, more than any other. Those ads carried €24,800 of estimated spend, a quarter of what January's 139 ads carried.

The scatter has no slope worth the name. February 2026 had 47 new ads and €51,100 of estimated spend; August had 145 and €37,000. Months with many ads are months where Gisou tested many variations at low weight. Months with few ads can be months where it put real money behind a handful. Early 2025 is the extreme case, with around ten ads a month averaging several hundred thousand people each, though the index also covered fewer ads then, so treat those counts as a floor.
Two caveats on the right-hand points. Spend sits with the month an ad started, so ads from September and October 2026 are still accumulating reach and their totals will grow. And as of this pull, Gisou's newest ads in the index were last seen on 13 October.
What to take from Gisou before your own Q4
Check where a competitor's ads link, not just how many there are. For any brand you follow, group its ads by landing domain. A shift to a retailer's domain is a channel decision you will not see in its store revenue. For another brand traced month by month, see our RYZE case study.
Don't assume Black Friday is where your competitors spend hardest. Gisou matched its usual monthly level in November and nearly tripled it in January. If your category has a retail partner, a January launch does not have to compete with every other brand's Black Friday discount. Our early Black Friday 2026 tracker shows which brands are already moving this year.
Launch to your own list first, then scale through the shelf. Gisou's own-store launch was small, built on a waitlist and a founder's voice, and it sold out. The big budget came after, aimed at people who had never been to the store. If you sell through a retailer, that order keeps the first wave of buyers on your own store, with their emails, and gives the retailer a launch with proof behind it.
Read high ad counts as testing, not scaling. To judge whether a competitor is actually putting weight behind something, look at reach and estimated spend per ad, as in our guide to telling scaling ads from ads that are merely running.
To run the same check on a brand you compete with, open it in Brandsearch, sort its Meta ads by estimated spend and read the landing pages of the top twenty. The domains will tell you where it expects to sell.
